Giving your loyal companion a high quality of life with expert treatment for orthopedic issues.
Animal Medical Center North offers orthopedic surgery procedures for dogs and cats covering a variety of injuries and conditions. Our veterinarians can help pets who suffer from torn ligaments, broken bones, joint problems, and even some inherited problems. In addition to orthopedic surgery, our clinic offers top notch certified veterinary rehabilitation services. Rehab therapy can help shorten your pet’s return to function after surgery as well as manage non-surgical chronic pain and mobility issues.
Fracture Repair - our surgeons can perform limb saving procedures such as bone plating, pinning and/or wiring to successfully mend fractured bones. At AMCN we use veterinary pre-operative planning software along with our extensive knowledge and training to ensure the proper realignment of bones and accurate placement of surgical implants.
Cruciate Ligament Injuries (CCL) - If your pet experiences an injury to a knee ligament, procedures such as a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) or Extracapsular Suture may be recommended. The choice depends on the species, size, breed, age and anatomy of your pet. Just like our fracture repairs, we use veterinary pre-operative planning software to maximize accurate positioning for cuts and the placement of implants. Our highly trained veterinary surgeons and cutting-edge technology promote rapid and successful recoveries.
Medial Luxating Patella (MLP) - Dislocated knee caps may require surgery to minimize pain and improve your pet's quality of life. Depending on the grade and status of the cruciate ligament, procedures such as Lateral Imbrication and Femoral Trochleoplasty may be recommended for your pet. Please call us for more information about our hospital's comprehensive orthopedic services.
Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) – Some dogs and cats may be good candidates for this surgery if they meet certain criteria. Hip dysplasia, severe hip arthritis, femur neck fracture, Legg-Perthes disease and dislocated hips are some of the painful conditions that may be alleviated with an FHO surgery. This procedure gives the best outcomes if the pet is less than 25kg and in reasonable physical fitness. If your pet has hip issues ask one of our veterinarians about our FHO procedure.
Rehab – At AMCN we have an amazing rehabilitation practitioner. Kim Cumming has an extensive background and impressive education in canine and feline rehabilitation. Kim is the only Certified Canine Rehab Practitioner (CCRP) accredited Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) in Grande Prairie. Kim’s specialties include speeding up recovery for post-surgical patients, non-surgical care for CCL, and treating back pain such as intravertebral disk disease (IVDD) and spondylosis. Kim also specializes in long term rehab for chronic joint pain.
